Re(m)betiko combines Greek folk music with influences of Byzantine and Ottoman musical traditions. The music reflects the suffering, everyday sorrows and experiences of the people who were displaced to mainland Greece in 1922 as part of the Asia Minor catastrophe. Later it developed into one of the most popular forms of music in Greece. The band Rebetikon was founded in 2016 and has the goal after to reproduce this music quite authentically. Their current program put the focus on the singer and composer Vasilis Tsitsanis, who is one of the most important representatives and developers of rembetiko with over 600 recorded songs.
